Please help welcome the next artist in the Navarre’s Lounge spotlight, Maurvice. This 21-year-old musician hails from Austin/Hutto, Texas, and has been into music since the young age of 7. Some of his musical inspirations are Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Stevie Wonder, Eminem Earth Wind and Fire, 2Pac, Amy Winehouse, Andre 3000, Lauryn Hill, Isaiah Rashad, Ice Cube, Frankie Beverly and Maze, and Anita Baker. Maurvice not only has smooth flows, but also plays alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, french horn, and clarinet.

For those of you that don’t play instruments or read music, having that ear for tones and intonation really do take you to the next step, and that extra layer of skill is blatantly apparent with Maurvice’s music. He describes his genre of music as hip-hop, rap, jazz, and spoken word, and I see why. The cadence that Maurvice provides in the song ‘Running to the Bank’ has heavily syncopated rhythms to the standard 4 time beat. The rhyme scheme for part of the verse is a triplet format, which is becoming a more common rhyming scheme with today’s rappers.

The latest project from Maurvice, Toxic Files, feature a prominent guitar lick over a trap set, accompanied by the occasional vocal background. Elements that one would expect from a diverse musician. His next project will be titled ‘Misunderstood Texan’, and I for one am excited to hear what this musician comes up with! With every project, he keeps improving. Keep up that grind Maurvice!
