Allow me the honor and the privilege to present the next artist in the Navarre’s Lounge spotlight; Jay Lewn! Jay Lewn hails from Watfort, UK, this musician and songwriter has done his due diligence to improving his craft. His inspirations include the likes of Frank Ocean, James Blake, and Sampha, and you can clearly hear it in his music. So far, Lewn has been perfecting his showmanship at atmospheric Sofar Sounds gigs, and has been making waves with performances on BBC Introducing.
Jay Lewn has gone from classical musical training to a chemistry degree, then ended up in professional audio engineering, and used these skills to produce the works of art you hear today. Maybe it’s because Jay Lewn’s hands is in many pots, but this man is not restricted to just one genre or sub-genre. He spreads the talent he posses across many types of beats and feels, all accented positively by the vocals he provides.
Take the posted song for example. Pink Love is one of my favorite songs of the year, and that was way before I even thought about making this website. The use of negative space in the song is dangerous; having no background instrumental and only the vocals can be a double edged sword; the lack of skill and talent will be extremely apparent in these spaces, but Jay Lewn is confident in his abilities and executes this track flawlessly.
His next project is his sophomore EP, titled Loverboy, and I for one am excited to hear what new fire this musician drops!
